The Oxford Philippines Society is in the process of setting up several internship programs for Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University students to learn about The Philippines, hands on and on site. The internship programs cover a variety of research topics from social entrepreneurship to biodiversity conservation, to women’s health in rural areas.
At the moment, the OPS has connections with Gawad Kalinga (“to give care” in Filipino), a non-governmental organization that aims to end poverty through an integrated approach to empowerment and values formation. Established in 2003, Gawad Kalinga works with over 2,000 communities throughout The Philippines (http://www.gk1world.com/home).
The Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm is GK’s platform for social entrepreneurship, helping local farmers create wealth through innovation. Located in the historical province of Bulacan outside Manila, the GK Farm has had a long and fruitful history in receiving university students who wish to share their ideas on social entrepreneurship while learning from the local community. Internship programs range from business-oriented projects to teaching at the GK school. For more information, please see http://gk1world.com/gk-enchanted-farm.
